"Grant, I heard a story about two farmers who desperately needed rain. And both of them prayed for rain, but only one of them went out and prepared his fields to receive it. Which one do you think trusted God to send the rain?" Well, the one prepared his fields for it. Which one are you? Mr. Bridges continued. "God will send the rain when He's ready. You need to prepare your field to receive it."
Listed below are the concepts God gave Grant for his football team after praying and searching the scriptures:
Concept 1: We are here for God's glory, not our own. (Revelation 4:11: You are worthy, O Lord to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.)
Concept 2: Loving God and others is the most important thing we can do. (Matthew 22:37-39: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.)
Concept 3: Give God your best in every area. (Colossians 3:23: Whatsoever you do, do it heartly, as to the Lord and not to men.)
Concept 4: God deserves our worship and praise whether we succeed or fail. (Job 1:21: The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.)
The quotes below are from Grant talking with his team:
We're not here to get glory, make money, and die. The Bible says that God put us here for Him. To honor Him. Jesus said the most important thing you could do with your life is to love God with everything you are, and love others as yourself.
"I want God to bless this team so much people talk about what He did. But it means we gotta give Him our best in every area. And if we win, we praise Him. And if we lose, we praise Him. Either way, we honor Him with our actions and our attitudes. So I'm asking you" - Grant peered around at his players- "what are you living for? I've resolved to give God everything I've got. Then I'll leave the results up to Him. I wanna know if you'll join me."
Quotes from the back section where Alex and Stephen Kendrick talk about "How Dad Taught Us To Face Our Giants:"
- God deserves worship and praise because of Who He is, not just for what He does for us.
- ... he [their Dad] was releasing us as arrows from his quiver into the world to do God's will.
- There's a big difference between a "good idea" and a "God idea." If God is in it, it will work.
